This project involved the careful restoration of the roof on a historically significant property in Culross, Fife, Scotland.
As a Category B listed building, the works required meticulous attention to detail and adherence to heritage standards.

- Complete retiling of the roof using traditional materials to preserve the building’s character.
- Replacement of lead work to ensure long-term durability and weatherproofing.
- Installation of new cast iron guttering, maintaining the period-appropriate aesthetic.
- Repair and replacement of rotten timbers, restoring structural integrity while respecting original craftsmanship.
Challenges And solutions:
- Limited Working Space: The site offered very restricted access, requiring careful planning to ensure safety and efficiency.
- High Foot Traffic: Located beside Culross Palace, a popular visitor attraction, the site experienced hundreds of tourists daily. We implemented strict safety measures, including clear signage, barriers, and scheduled deliveries outside peak visitor hours to minimize disruption.
Outcome:
The project successfully combined modern roofing expertise with heritage conservation principles, ensuring the building remains protected for generations to come.
